Light, Raking
This week’s Saturday Night Video comes to you from Chapel Hill rockers Polvo’s last album, Siberia, released in 2013. I was reminded of the brilliance of Polvo by this gushing review of their Celebrate The New Dark Age ep that was just posted in Bandcamp’s irregular I Love This Record feature.
By the time Siberia was released, Polvo had matured as a band, crafting well-constructed and, as the case of “Light, Raking,” catchy songs, while still keeping things loose in the studio. Their signature Eastern sound is still there to provide the unexpected twists in the song structure, with a gnarly and inventive guitar solo showing off the band’s angular sensibilities.
Polvo poked fun at ludicrous music videos on the 1996 song “The Purple Bear” but here presents a fun and creative entry in the format with some artful stop motion.
